Writing
A great way to practice writing at home is to write daily reflections. A skill that we work on while writing words is to finger tap out each sound to identify each letter in a word. While working with your child encourage them to tap out the sounds, work together to spell. While practicing spelling 2-3 sound words to make it more fun you can use shaving cream, salt or play-doh.
It would be so nice to stay in contact. I would love to be your children pen-pal via email. If they send me an email I will respond. It would be wonderful to hear about how learning is going at home.
Reading
Just wanted to share the power of reading. It is very important that your child reads for at least 10 minutes a day to continue to work on their reading skills.
Social Emotional and Writing Activity
In small groups, we work on identifying how we are feeling. I found a wonderful activity to create an emotion wheel and write about how they are feeling along with drawing a picture. Below are some helpful questions to lead the discussion with creating the emoji feeling wheel. I hope that this can be a fun activity for you and your child to do together! This is a great tool to keep and use as a daily check in with your children. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

- Prompt: How are you feeling today? I’m feeling happy because I had my favorite breakfast (pancakes) this morning. Everyone has different feelings and sometimes it’s hard to express how we are feeling and what we may need at that moment.
* Hand out the feel wheel worksheet *
I’d like you to take a few minutes and think: “how am I feeling today?” Am I feeling sad?, angry about something? Happy? Just blah/OK? Sometimes outside factors determine our feelings and checking in with a friend or teacher and letting them know how you’re doing can make all of the difference.
